I teach kindergarten. Yesterday the mother of one of my students asked me to recommend to her a school for her son while they visit California for a month. Koreans do this sort of traveling and studying abroad so much that frankly, I find it hard to believe that she can't find practical information on this sort of thing in Korean someplace.

What would be the options for a Korean parent that wants to have their kindergarten age kid in school during the day while they visit California for a month? How is such a situation generally handled?

I've never heard of somebody doing this on short notice, but I bet where there's a dollar there's a way.

It isn't short notice, they are planning to travel NEXT summer. I should have made that more clear. So, they do have time to plan and contact people.

I assumed that being as they are Korean they hadn't planned anything regarding this trip. Koreans are that way. But planning a year or so in advance? Unheard of until now. Sounds like at least some here have the right idea.

I'm sure they can get hooked up with some private school someplace that's running a camp in 2009. This assumes WW3 hasn't arrived. I say 'private' because I'm sure they wouldn't want to walk into a public school program where 80% of the kids are minorities. Koreans are that way as well, understand.

It'd be funny as hell to watch a rich Korean family's reaction to being in a classroom full of poor black students.
