can anyone tell me on the size of the largest box available for mailing goods in the post office?
i've contacted a lot of shipping companies, but really, my stuff doesn't amount to that much - mainly clothes, some books, and a few bits & bobs. am i better just sending a few large boxes through the post office?
any advice would be really appreciated -

Another recent post dealt with this subject. The largest box is a #5 that you get at the Post Office.

| thanks for the reply. i had read that post, and went into my PO today to check out the size 5 box, but i couldn't see one anywhere near as big as i require. |

max combined linear dimensions for a parcel going home is 2 meters.
Length + height + width + height + width = 2 meters
so a box that is 50cm x 50cm x 1 meter would be the biggest and your max weight is 20 kg. |

| I just saw number 6 boxes, but someone on here said they were told by the post office that they could only send up to a number 5 box. |

You cannot send a #6 box overseas. It is too big.
The largest box the post office sells that you can use is the #5.
It is SMALLER that the max size allowed.
The linear dimensions of a #5 box are 48cm x 36cm x 30 cm.
You can get a box and cut it down to 50 x 50 x 100cm. (max size allowed). |

| I have sent about five #6 boxes home in the last few weeks. The first PO initially said I couldn't (before I bought them) but then the staff checked and said it was fine. Last week I was at a different PO posting another #6 and it was fine too. I sent them all surface mail. |

i know this is a stupid question, but how do you go about estimating the weight of your box at home. i think i'm going to have to send a few. i don't want to walk back & back from the PO. do i just bring a case/box for extras incase i go over the 20kg?
