Every year when Chuseok rolls around I go 'full Gimli': I grow a beard.

And every year I get the same question from my director, coworkers and students: "why are you growing a beard?"

The answer? Simple. "I'm going to the beach!"

I'm getting in touch with my ancestors. They had beards. At least the part of me that's Koreanized.

When Chuseok is over, I shave. It's my ritual; make it yours and we will soon take control with facial hair alone. Shocked

Voted no.
Why look like a homeless bum to show individuality and non-conformisim. Passive aggressiveness can be so lame.

Do you wipe with handfuls of leaves at the beach as well?

No thanks, but....

I will wait till Movember. It started in New Zealand as a charity fund raiser for cancer research. You get a group of mates, each one puts in say $20 each. You all shave at the save time on the 31st of October and grow a dirty 'tash for 4 weeks.

An independent judge decides who has the best mo, or pick category winners, eg.

Dirtiest 'tash
Best molester mo (The Uncle Bully)
Worst lipfuzz
Best Chopper

The winner gets half the pot or is divvied up amongst category winners.

I've had a dab the last few years and it's pretty hard work holding a full gruff for 4 weeks. It's pretty itchy if you're not used to it.

I have mercifully few whiskers so I can't play the game, but I'd love to watch. Men with beards turn me on. Maybe it's because I have a crush on Jesus... and suddenly the Rapacious Mr. Batstove too.

I grew a beard over summer vacation. I got a lot of compliments on it but shaved it off because of the heat. Chuseok isn't enough time to grow a proper beard.

Sorry Frog, but you'll have to wait in line like everyone else till Movember for your mustache ride.

Hadn't thought about it until I read this post. I'm not a very hirsute person, it takes about three weeks to get anything even approaching a "respectable" beard... BUT - it's now been about 5 days since I last shaved, purely due to laziness and apathy..... might as well let 'er go!

Thanks!
