I teach in the public system and I want to do some listening exercises, what do you guys do? Music? Can you download some short conversations or stories, or do you just read to them? How do you handle the listening thing? Also on a side note how is the disipline in your class, I let the K-teacher handle it, but they are crazy slck, kids basically do whatever, I don't give a shit cause I know they won't learn shit anyways and I still get paid. I want the listen exercises to kill time.

I use a song by Dido "White Flag". I include the following handout. The singer sings the words clearly and it has worked well so far. If you are interested let me know and I will send you the worksheet in MS Word format. I also have a copy of the song cut down to drop the intro music. Let me know your e-mail addy and I will send them to you.

- I give them instructions to fill in the blanks and I play the song once.
- I then explain the word Surrender and the phrases I will go down with this ship and I will hold my tongue.
- I play the song a second time.
- I then go through the song and have the students tell me the words needed to fill in the blanks. I write the words on the board.
- I play the song a third time.

I added the poem at the end of page two to extend the pronunciation exercise.

I am very friendly with my kids. I don't care so much what they do in class as long as they are not disturbing anyone else. If they get out of hand and won't sit down and shut up....I kick them out. I don't show anyone that it upsets me...but it is firm "Get up!" "Get out" problem solved. I let the Korean teacher figure out what to do with them from there.

Take care

Yeah, if you don't care and just want to kill time use songs. Songs need not necessarily be a waste of time at all, but given your attitude I'm sure you could find a way to make them so.
