|

I am leaving my job (early, but after my notice period) and flying home to England. The return flights I can find are cheaper than the one-ways, so I was planning on just not using the return ticket and cancelling it when I get back. Has anyone else done this? Does anyone know if it could cause problems at Korean immigration/customs? Thanks for any advice. |

I don't think you'll have a problem. When leaving Korea (or any country for that matter) the status of your ticket (one way or return) is generally not important. |

The only problem lies in the fact that the return portion is probably not refundable so you end up just throwing it away.
If it is cheaper than a one-way ticket, go for it.
Immigration won't care if you leave on a one way or return ticket.
Hand in your ARC on the way out and they will close your file as well., |

What are you worried they're going to do - force you to stay in Korea? |

ttompatz and tiger fancini, thanks for your reply. the other bloke, get a life and then you might not have to spend your time posting sarcastic comments on forums. To the two of you, can I just ask, not meaning to be rude, what are you basing your opinions on? I would guess exactly the same as you but, I don't know. To me it is conceivable that questions would be asked as to why, if my visa has been cancelled, I have a return ticket. Very unlikely, but worth asking about. |

The point is they're not going to stop you leaving Korea so what exactly are you scared of?
Immigration official: why do you have a return ticket?
somebloke: because it was cheaper.
That scares you? Talk about clueless...
Thanks for making me laugh. |

If you don't use your return ticket, then you could get extra charges. Call your airline and ask them. |

Had the same issue when I left Japan to come here. Travel agency refused to sell me a return as they claimed I would be in trouble for not using the return portion.
Not sure why it is such a hassle but seems to be a fairly new thing. |

Stupid agency. It's none of their business if you use the whole thing or not.
OP: Matman wasn't taking a potshot at you, just making a blunt point. Don't take offense so easily. |

Right, immy doesn't even look at your tickets so it's not possible for that to be a problem. As Tom said, turn in your ARC card at Immy and tell them you're not coming back (If they ask why tell them the school went out of bizzness). That way they will cancel your present visa and you would be able to get a new one regardless of having or not having a Letter of Release (whatever that is... ). |
