Hi I read on here ages ago that you need to buy a powerpack for your laptop for when you come over to Korea can someone explain this to me. Also as Im away to buy a new laptop for coming over (spilt jack and coke all over old one) can I buy these packs at home before I come over?
Thanks |

you just need to get a device which converts the voltage from Korean voltage to whatever you have in your country. i lucked out; someone left a converter in their apartment and it happened to be a US voltage to Korean voltage. but i'm told that if you have to buy one they are pretty cheap and you can get them at any of the big stores (E-Mart, HomePlus, LotteMart).
just hook your laptop into the converter and you are ready to go!
if you want to get Internet, that's pretty easy. they hook it up just like the Internet man at home would and it works right away. |

Not exactly true. You most likely won't need the voltage converter. Most laptop power bricks will handle a wide range of voltages. If it says it will handle up to 215 V or more then it will work here. Mine says it will go up to 240 volts.
What you will need is a little adapter to change the plug style. Buy the cheap travel kit at Wal-mart and then don't use the voltage converter that comes with the kit. The cheap voltage converter is for appliances and should be thrown away. This way you will have plugs for all the countries and be able to use the laptop on your way to Korea.
In Korea you can get the little plug adapters for about 50 cents in Yongsan. |
