So at the end of next month I have to do a training class for the teachers at my school. I thought I would do a quick survey among the teachers to see what they might or might not be interested in.
so what questions would you ask? I think I have the basics covered just want to see if there is anything I missed out on. |

just go ahead and teach what you want to teach to them. Make it simple and go slowly. Just because they're teachers doesn't mean they are advanced English speakers |

If I read correctly, it's one forty minute class. Your employer is on drugs. Plain and simple. Play some porno and drink beer. 40 minutes is a fucking joke. |

mehamrick - One 40 min. class....? Basic phonics - 'p/f', 'b/v', etc.
Demonstrate techniques on 'how to teach' basic/correct pronunciation. |

I would concentrate on showing them how to teach a story. This is a great skill and can be applied across levels/age groups.
First show them how to preteach the story. Ppt, the retell using just pictures. (I do this with Heungbu / Nolbu available on my site in ppt pictures only). Then students order the story pictures and talk about the story.
Next, students write the story, one or two lines for each picture. Then they make a mini book for the story.......finally, they share and also listen to the real story in ppt with a recording....
Great skill and kids love stories, all teachers should have this in their repetoire. Show them how to use a ppt in such a constructive way.

PS. If you want any great survey sheets for teachers, try Andrew Finch's Teaching Reflections. Great stuff and it will help you. www.finchpark.com/books |

not knowing the english level of your teachers makes this a bit difficult to assess. IYHO, what is their spoken english level(s)?
if worst comes to worst, have them read together. don't let them "stampede" as the kids tend to do. make them pause for punctuation and try to get them to use tone variance. yeah, reading is key. i never let the kids read in that monotone roboric voice they are all so good at.
just letting them see how someone else teaches is a good thing for others to behold. |

Explain to them that English should be spoken in English class--and why. |
