Absinthe tastes like schnapps. A serving will make you plenty tipsy but I didn't want to take my monks rope off and prance around like the article says in Mens Journal. I was inebriated for an afternoon and then ready to go around dinner time. Its alchohol but with a "clearer" effect and no or little hangover. |

I was expecting more than just a bottle of booze. But that's all I got. |

I picked up 2 bottles of the stuff in Prague. I have yet to crack the seal on the green fairy. |

I got hold of some wormwood herb (online, not local), and I'm currently infusing some vodka with it, with some blue lotus flowers and horny goat weed chucked in for good measure.
I'll let you know how it turns out. |

last time i had it (Prague, natch) i almost puked.
they mentioned it on CSI a few nights ago. it appears that CSI's crack team of writers thinks that absinthe is loaded with hallucinogens. |

You can buy fake absinthe in the United States fairly easily. It's the same as regular absinthe, but without the thujone. That's the ingredient that caused absinthe to be banned in the first place, but it's been shown to not cause hallucinations, although it's fatal in really really high doses. There wasn't even enough even in old-timey absinthe to be fatal.
Basically, the hallucinogenic effects of absinthe are nil, and it's a waste of money to buy absinthe if you think you're going to get some groovy green fairy effects. However, as a liquor it's interesting to drink, especially if you drink it the traditional way with a cube of sugar. |

alot of absinthe is just colored booze that takes a bit like jagermeister, ie has a licorice/anise flavor. i like drinking it, and there is something to be said for the psychomatic effect of hallucinogens, or those things that might be hallucinogens.
also, back in the day it was mixed with laudanum, which was a heavy duty opiate. that's where the sugar came in. laudanum tasted bad.
never seen laudanum.
and i'm probably spelling that wrong. |
