|
|
Background: I saw a Korean film of recent vintage a couple years ago which featured a brief appearance by an English Teacher. The teacher (young, pretty, female) walked into a classroom and stood at a podium in silence whilst the kids sat around talking. All of a sudden, for no reason, the teacher began laughing. The high school students stopped talking and all 40 stared at her as though she was off her rocker. The director, from what I recall, was trying to show the foreigner desperately to ingratiate herself. And that was that: a slightly off-balance foreign teacher, laughing wildly. Exit stage right. I don't recall the name of the film but are there other Korean films in which foreign teachers play a role? |

A well-known independent female producer I know here once wanted me to play a bit part as an English teacher in a movie she was producing. There were some pretty big stars in it, too.
But when she showed my headshot to the director, he rejected me because he thought I didn't "look like a teacher" because I have a shaved head.
I've been an English teacher at Hanyang, Oedae, Hongik, Kookmin, Seoul Yodae and the headquarters for LG. Did a couple of years in Japan as well.
I guess what he really meant to say was that I didn't have rack. I knew there was something I forget to get when I was doing my teacher training. |

"Please teach me English". Don't know if she's a teacher or not but it's a good movie. |

"Oh Happy Day" with 장나라 has several scenes with foreigners who are supposed to be bussinessmen/women, but man, what horrible choices they made for actors. Painful to watch them unable to get through that wet paper bag with their acting skills. |

How about the TV show where all the actors are Russians, but speaking English? Must be really low budget. |

You must mean MBC's "Amazing Big Nose Surprise TV!"
I did a few episodes of that, until I realized I was only making like W8,000 an hour. That's why so many Russians do it -- that's good money for them.
My favorite episode was the one where JFK had a thick Aussie strine and Jackie O. had a grammatically impaired Russian accent. Camelot indeed! |
