Greetings to the community.
Following my previous topic
(http://forums.eslcafe.com/korea/viewtopic.php?t=98760&start=0)
I had the opportunity to apply for a French teaching position which I took.
(let me add that I did not write a single line in French in my application and that I did not have any interview)
I just received (by email) the answer that I am not suitable for this position as I do not have native level skills in French......
(I have been adopted and French and English are my 2 native languages although my French is better than my English, have 2 university degrees etc...)
The titles says it all, I do really believe that some (most?) schools directors/owners have a mental or (lack) professional skills problem.
In this case, they were requesting a native French teacher with excellent English skills (application in English only) -> I applied and got this answer.
I suppose the fact I am an F4 adopted Korean made them decide that I am not qualified.
As I am eager to relocate to Korea (I am convinced that not all Koreans behave like hakwons owners) I am thus still looking for a position there.
I can not stop wondering if I will find a position there (company's position would be best but there are not many)
And yes, I am moaning....... |

Keep on plugging away and something will come up soon. Maybe a Uni position teaching French?? A local college in my town has German teachers so anything's possible.
Good luck! |

@Alyallen
Thanks a lot for your word of encouragement.
Unfortunately for the uni I am not entitled to apply as I only have 2 university degrees and no phd. |

You sure you can't apply? I know both the German teachers in my town and they don't have Ph.Ds...Hell, lots of English teachers who work at Universities or Unigwons (or whatever they are called) don't have Ph.Ds. |

Absolutely. The German teachers, Japanese teachers, Chinese teachers, and spanish teachers I know teaching at uni do not have Ph.Ds... And less than half of the English teachers I know/met have a Masters. |

The French 'lecturer' at my University doesn't have a P.h.d. You're more than qualified. (In fact, I bet there must be at least one poster on this board who's been asked to teach French who didn't even speak it.. I'm sure there must be..)
Keep trying. I'm not sure how easy it is is to find French teaching jobs though.. is there a Davide's FSL cafe somewhere?
Oh also, there is probably some kind of French funded French educational institute in Seoul somewhere that might want you. I know the Germans have the Goethe institute on Namsan with a whole bunch of German teachers, so I'm sure there is a French equivalent somewhere even outside of the University system.
If none of that works out come teach English. You write better than 85% of the Korean teachers can. |

Thanks.
There are very few jobs for French teachers, I already checked all the official websites.
Would someone be able to tell me if I would have more opportunities applying for pat time jobs (English) I mean are part time jobs easier to land than full time positions (English teaching) , guess my best option is to take some part time jobs and maybe teach privates (I am on an F4 visa) while looking for a full time opportunities.
Any hints?
Thanks for your answers |

(raises hand)
My first job in Seoul. The French teacher (from Paris) quit and I was asked to continue the classes for her, in addition to doing my English classes. I'm Canadian, so I must speak it. Boss was pretty angry when I said no. Actually, I think most of that anger was directed at the French teacher who left, mainly because now he had no one to give him hummers in his office while his wife sat behind the reception desk. |

drogon - As others have said...just keep trying and you will find someone to hire you.
But...it will come with a whole package of problems as a result of their having hired you 'as a last resort' and they will most likely make your life miserable.
Seems to me, given your circumstances, that you are continuing to look in the wrong places.
Have you read any of Freakstars' posts? |

Yes, but you do have an F4 visa and companies/corporate 'trainers' are not bound by the same Ministry of Education regulations for 'teachers' as hakwans and schools.
Anyway...good luck...over and out. |

Yes thanks again.
There is at least one where there are Koreans posting job adds.
Unfortunately I do not read Korean but was able to find the section. |
