Hey guys!
A newbie here is planning to move to Korea this coming January, and I'm considering the cities of Chuncheon, Changwon, and Gyeonju. They all seem nice, and have the characteristics I'm looking for: hiking, mid-sized, several universities, and not too far from either Seoul or Busan.
If anyone has lived there and has any positive things to say about them or any horror stories about them, let me know!!
I'm hoping to be able to run a lot, either on the streets or in a gym, and get outdoors whenever possible. I'm tired of the big city life and could use a smaller place that I can have some fun in.
I know these cities won't have the Western food and nightlife of Seoul, but that's what I'm hoping for! So let me know, and thanks!

Correct. And each IS nice. I've enjoyed travelling to each of them a few times.
But weather is VERY different between Chuncheon by the northern border and Changwon at the southern coast. You got two extra months of t-shirt weather in Changwon and only a couple of days of snow in winter. Gyeongju weather is quite different, from what I've heard, due to inland location near freezin' dry Daegu.
Changwon to Busan and Chuncheon to Seoul are nice, easy, cheap and quick. Gyeongju to Busan or Seoul takes longer, less frequently used routes. But Gyeongju has countless hiking and biking opportunities.
Sounds like you've got the basics worked out. Why choose? Simply apply to jobs in those three places and let the work-related differences decide the matter. (unless you will show up in person first and look for a position yourself, which is best, but more costly). |

Are you sure you got the facts right?
I'm in a city close to Chuncheon (춘천) and we're not close to either Pusan or Seoul.
It's nice out here, though. |

I lived in Changwon my first year here. It has a couple of great bars - O'Briens and IP. The hiking trails around the city are very nice, but not spectacular. The tallest is 800 meters. But they are very convenient and you can just go up to the ridge, hike, and come back down to the city whenever you're tired. |
