| Why is N. Korea called Democratic People's Republic of North Korea? Same with Cambodia- used to be Democratic Campuchea? It's confusing. Why do you think they didn't call themselves Communist Campuchea? Inquiring minds want to know.... |

I suppose if you really get to the meaning of democracy it means "People power" and since communism is supposedly (though not in practice) a "Peoples' paradise" then they call themselves democratic |

| I guess democractic has different senses of the word- it's just not what pops into my head when someone mentions North Korea, etc. I've heard of ppl getting their mail sent to N. Korea because think democractic= democracy= South Korean government, and then they send their mail to the DPRK instead of the ROK... |
