I am going to teach my first graders in middle school this. i know the basic rules
one or two syllable words add er and est, three syllables get more/most
questions, there are exceptions, like fun is small but gets more and most, what are the other exceptions (or like we dont say gooder)
words ending in Y change to I when they add their ending, but why do other words change?
like why does big add a g?
if anyone has a useful fact sheet or something on this that would be awesome. i am looking for clarifications of rules on adding endings and a lits of exceptions. |

The rule is one sylable words or 2 sylable words ending in y get er/est
big/bigger/biggest pretty/prettier/prettiest
2 syllable words not ending in Y and 3+ syllable words get more/most |
