No way!
Are you kidding? Could you imagine what kind of wackjobs would get in if all a photocopy and a few IDs would suffice?
You will need your passport everywhere you travel. All immigration agents need to scan the codes at the bottom thyrough a machine (and in some other countries, the biometric data in the newer copies of the passport.
This is why EU and American passports (lost or stolen) will often fetch a grand on the black market in Nigeria. |

Sure, just as long as you're willing to drive or take a train/bus everywhere and you don't plan on exiting this country or entering any other countries legally. |

IF the question was legitimate it has to go down as one of the, if not THE, stupidest question ever asked on here. And there have been some dillies in the past. |

Is this the same person who "lost" their passport in Korea?
The person who was more upset and concerned that they could not transfer money to the US rather than going directly to the Embassy to report a stolen passport or getting it replaced??

No, dear god, please, please, please don't let the OP be an American. Any other nationality is OK. |

I'm afraid the "wackjobs" have already gotten in ...
all over the planet
and they especially favor S.K.

I don't follow. Why would a passport with a biometric data chip (especially lost or stolen) fetch a price on any market. Seems to me the buyer would be in deep sheets if he/she tried to use one at a fully equipped immigration checkpoint. |

I would, perhaps, understand that question if you took several long shots of tequila and then asked it. Can you imagine the look of a border official if you present a photo-copy of an American, Canadian, or British passport? I know that in the past, Americans did not have to show a passport when going to Canada, the Carribbean, or Mexico. You only needed to show a birth certificate or driver's license, I believe. And, what happened to your passport if you are having a photo-copy but not producing the real one? You are required to report a missing passport to the US Embassy A.S.A.P.! It is the property of the U.S. Government, technically. Do you own a television? The U.S. Government has been saying over and over for the past few years that you need a passport to travel, and they didn't say "But, it is okay if you show us a photocopy". With all the terrorism in the world, why would you expect a photocopy to be okay? It was never okay to have a photocopy of a passport to show to people at the border.
Report your passport stolen or missing and pay for a new one!
I hope the OP was joking... But I am not sure...If not, you are required to report your passport stolen... |

Man I dont know the ins and outs of traveling, I was quite certain the answer was a no but several people at my school thought it was worth a try. It sounded relatively pluasible if I could get some sort of official note from the embassy and presented a few other forms of ID.
Ya never know. |

Why are you even asking this silly question? Did you lose or destroy your passport? Perhaps lend it to your not so nice boss or "friend" who will not give it back. If so, just go to your embassy, put up the money and get a new one. You cannot leave or enter a foreign country without a passport. It's not even plausible kiddo. |

If you were in the US army, you would be able to.
Other than that, the answer would be no
-------- VVV In Regards to the post below mine VVVV---------------------
I have heard that is also possible for Americans too if the person is still in possession of their return ticket and don't have sufficient time (or funds) to get a replacement passport....but you should check with the embassy for further and correct info.....

I don't know about the states but the op is kind of right, if you lose your passport just before travelling to NZ (and you are a new zealander) you can go to the embassy and get a letter which allows you to travel back to NZ. (you can't use it just to take a holiday) |
