If you are doing a simple hike, not climbing up steep vertical rocks, just get some half-decent crampons/spikes for your boots. Bring a cell phone. That's it.

Might be a little off-topic, but do you know where I can find a good, light-weight, backpacking tent?

The hiking and camping stores will have them, but they are going to be a pretty penny, hundreds of dollars. You can find these stores at the base of most major hikes in Northern Seoul. The road leading up to Doseonsa and the Baegundae trail on Bukhansan has tons of these stores. If you want a subway station with them, go to Suyu Station, take exit 8 and do a 180 when you walk outside. You'll be walking toward Outback Steakhouse and you'll see a couple hiking/camping stores on your right. There are these pricey tents in there.

I got a cheap tent off of G-Market instead of paying hundreds of dollars.

I get a kick out of people climbing up the mountains when it is icy!!!!

I usually run up Gwanaksan once a week - great views and really more wild than most places/hikes. Still, there are lots of people risking life and limb without any kind of athleticism that might come in handy when confronted with a 100m fall. I sometimes stand there just blank with incomprehension.......

If you work hard, you don't need much heavy clothing. Just a shell unless it is one of only a handful of freezing days. Take the trip up Gwanaksan sometimes, about 4 hours there and back at Sadang station.
