So hanging out during the education office inspection day co-teacher walks up and goes oh by the way you need to verify your degree and dates of attendance.

I am like well that would be the E-2 visa that immigration gave me for my degree and sealed transcripts, which you also have a set here.

Co-teacher "yeah but you need to call the university and have them tell you.."

Me.. "ummm sure but that wont verify anything. You have to call them."

Co-teacher "OMG no way I cant talk to them. Do they have a website"

Me.. "Yes but it wont give you records information because that is against the law."

Co-teacher "so how can I do"

Me "trying to keep mouth shut about korean logic.. Maybe you can send them an email and they might verify it that way??"

Ahhh the funny thing was how she worded it all. Yeah beause the foreigners gave face transcripts and degrees they are checking.. I couldnt resist the ohh that didnt have anything to do with all the koreans getting caught with fake degrees and transcripts in the media blast... Rolling Eyes

Have you been approached yet?

They can check all they want. My degree, unlike the women banging Korean government leaders, is legal.

If this happens to anyone else you have to try saying "okay" then go back the next day with "I called my university, they said I am on record as attending from ___ to ___ and I got a degree in _____". Really, do this. Then report back here.

If everybody would stop being difficult, just give them what they want. If you have a legal degree then you've nothing to worry about. Don't be difficult just for the sake of it.

The problem I have with it is that this usually costs money.

They are trying to get us to foot the bill and take the time FOR them.

Mr. Rooster: Hello, Mr. Fox. I have a little job for you to do. We're worried that the wolves are going to eat the hens. We need a guard. Would you mind guarding the hen house at night?

Mr. Fox: Why, no, of course I'd be glad to help you out.

The correct response to all this is that Immi already checked, since we have our E-2s. But the smartest response is to just go along with it. Go home, write up a fake check report and hand it in. Everyone is satisfied.

Write up a fake report? Why on earth would you do that?

Comply. Unless you are hiding something.

As I said on a similar thread, they've already seen and verified my degree about 6 times since coming to Korea. One more time is completely unnecessary, and while I'm sure "they need to see it," it's ridiculous to play into their latest moral panic. Remember the last time a large number of teacheres were busted . . . we all had to go to immigration in December, verify our degrees, much to our inconvenience, in a be-all-end-all procedure. Sounds like they still haven't gotten their shit together. And, as everybody has already said, it sounds like they really ought to be checking the Koreans' degrees. It's insulting to be asked time and time again for the same paperwork they've already seen, and they already should have vetted. It's not being difficult, it's being reasonable. They aren't getting mine again.

Just got mine a little while ago, but it was easy: provide CT with DOB, ARC number, graduation date, and visa type.

Unless it was for something else.

Because this has always been Immi's job. If they doubt the validity of a degree, why would they ask YOU to verify it?

This is their problem. Let them work out a system that actually does what it is supposed to do. I'm sick and tired of having to pay to get the same set of documents to turn in to the same set of people just because I got a different job down the street.

If fake degrees are a problem, then asking the same people who handed in the fake degree to now verify that their fake degree isn't fake isn't a new achievement in stupidity, I'd like to hear a better example.

Well my employer has had everyone to verify their degrees. It is beyond logic.

You are not the only one being checked. Just tell them that's immigration's job to verify degrees not the other way round.
