posted a message on the jobs wanted board here - within a few hours I was talking to someone who was looking to hire a teacher, on msn - he wants me to fly out monday.

he has seen my photo and resume but nothing else - is this a bit odd ? seemed very quick to me.

was for 1.85 m for 105 hours a month in Gimhae City.

I know a lot of you are on a lot more WON but I do not have any experience and am very eager to get out there. Anyone else got a job through MSN chatting ?

Is it odd? To the western world, yes. In the Korean world, hearing something like your story doesn't suprise me. I get calls daily from people who have no idea about my teaching, offering me jobs on the spot, or because we met in McD for 3 minutes in line, I would check out the school, as much as you can and if it looks then go for it. Realize nothing is going to be perfect.

Teachers are in high demand here. especially with less and less of them coming because of recent world events.

Currently the Pound to won = about 1900 won for each pound.
You should push for more money. Your salary is very negocitable. There are lots of jobs, here. You will have no trouble getting a job even with your lack of experience.

If he says no, tell him no thank-you, it is like a dance over here. Tell him you need <your salary>, if you stand your ground they will usually give in.

Knowing what you want will help...Do you want a small or alrge city. Do you want to work with children or adults? Do you want a large company or a mom and pop organization? Are you a morning person? and so on.

Good luck, If I can help you let me know.

very helpful cheers - just not used to haggling I guess

I suppose If I just popped on a plane and looked for a job myself I would get a better wage ? - that just seems a bit daunting and risky as I do not have a lot of cash to fall back on.

Thing is Ihave been waiting on another recruiter for a month now - they are finding it hard to find 2 placements as I have a friend who is going to come out with me and ideally we would like to be in the same area.
