|
|
Hello,
I'm new to the forum but not new to Korea. I've been here for two years now and have not had to deal with this before. I've spent the last two years at the same hagwon. I will finish my contract in the next few weeks and would like to get some information about changing the sponsorship on my visa. All I know is that I need a letter of release from my present hagwon releasing me to the new hagwon but after that I have no clue.
I'm assuming the new hagwon will take care of everything but I don't want to leave it entirely up to them...I've been here too long to know that if I leave it entirely up to my hagwon then it either won't get done or it will be left until the very last possible moment...and then it still might not get done.
I've searched the board for information regarding this but have not found anything that deals with this situation. Maybe I'm not looking closely enough.
If anyone has any information or can point me in the right direction it would be much appreciated.
Thanks |

Two things if you are at the end of your current contract then you don't need to be released as you already are.
Depending on the immigration office that you are dealing with you will or won't have to hand in your current alian card and do a visa run.
For your new job you will need to receive new contract papers and take them to immigration for approval. They will either stamp your alian card or give you a contract approval paper to take to say Japan for a new E2 visa.
Best of luck! |

Hi and thanks for the info. However, my contract is supposed to finish on Oct 6 and my visa was supposed to expire on Sept 28. I've had it extended and my card stamped so that it now expires Oct. 13.
Do I still need to get a release letter because I'd like to get my visa work done before I go back to Canada. |

Seems like a similar situation to mine.
My contract finishes Saturday 4th October, but my boss wants me to stay an extra two weeks (my visa expires 2nd November). I said no. So, they have started being awkward about everything eg: flight out (change my flight date without my permission), release letter (say they won't give me one), final payments (boss isn't working on my last day, so will have to wait).
I have been offered a new positon. My future boss has called immigration (because my current boss is a you know what), and he says I have nothing to worry about concerning visas, release letters etc once my contract finishes.
I hope things run smoothly for anyone who has paid their dues, and still experience problems up until the last day of employment. |
