|
|
On another thread, the movie SUNSET BOULEVARD happened to be mentioned. It's always been one of my favorites. Jongroguru mentioned that it is one of the top 20 AMERICAN movies of all time. I think it's in the top 5.
I'm not one to prioritize movies or books in exactly that way, one being better than two, etc. but it could be fun to see what the 5 best are from everyone's home country.
In no particular order:
1. Sunset Boulevard
2. Bonnie and Clyde
3. The Searchers
4. McCabe and Mrs. Miller
5. The Wizard of Oz |

Having posted that, I think I'll go watch Jeremiah Johnson, another of my favorites. |

I'm Canadian - and off the top of my head I couldn't think of one. So I googled "Top 10 Candian Films" and read the recommendations.
Still can't think of one. |

Tommorow my friend and I are having a Thanksgiving FilmFest (with home karaoke.) Here's our lineup:
Napoleon Dynamite
Strangers With Candy
Borat
Nacho Libre
I haven't seen any of them before.
We'll see how that goes! |

How do you define Canadian Film? Canadian Director? Leads? Setting?
An awful lot of Canadians work south of the border.
I liked:
New Waterford Girl
Exotica
The Hanging Garden
A History Of Violence
Way Down Town
Also:
Better Than Chocolate
Hard Core Logo
The Five Senses
Goin' Down the Road
most other Cronenberg films
and who can forget Men With Brooms!
and anything with Sarah Polley or Don McKellar! (Last Night springs to mind). Or Molly Parker or Callum Keith Rennie.

I would say 'no'. It's from a book by Annie Proulx, an American. (She also wrote 'Brokeback Mountain'. (About half of her short stories set in contemporary Wyoming could be made into good films.) 'Shipping News' was disappointing as a movie, terrific as a book. |
