|
|
I appreciate everyones help on the board. I am looking for a position that requires 2 teachers for the end of October/Beginning of November. I have contacted numerous recruiters and they seem to think it will be a tough task. I am going to Korea with a friend so not a couple. Is this a bad time of year to look or are positions in Central Seoul that hard to come by for 2 people? I have no teaching experience with English but have tutored after school programs for 3 years and my friend taught English in Taiwan for over 2 years. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. |

Not easy, but not impossible.
The difficult thing will be getting a position where you aren't both being screwed.
I never think working together is a good idea. If you work for 2 separate schools, then there's a chance that at least one of you will like your job. If the other person's job sucks, then at least one of you has a safe job if the other has to quit. If you both work for the same crappy school, it will be awful for both of you.
Some schools think, "OH, COUPLE! WE CAN SAVE MONEY ON AN APARTMENT!" They end up sticking you in a regular-sized little hole and pocket the savings. Another reason why you should get a 2 different jobs and just pocket the housing allowance from one (or both) and use that to get your own place... or use the house from one job, but negotiate for a higher-rent place with the boss, and pay part of that rent yourself.
In any case, you MUST make sure they treat you as 2 different employees, and that you get all benefits that 2 separate employees would. |

What your saying does make a lot of sense. Just thought it would be easier with the same school and same days off and schedule etc as opposed to different locations with scheduled time off etc. But finding a place in Seoul that would be OK for 2 single guys to live while saving a housing allowance may be tough if its a single apartment. But I see your concerns and good thing to keep in mind. |

my girlfriend and I got our jobs through Park Recruiting Agency. They found us jobs (at the same academy) in Daechi-dong. We both started at 2.8 million won a month. Our apartment is two rooms (although we use one room as a living room). We have a spacious kitchen and a decent sized bathroom. If you're having difficulty finding something...give Park Recruiting Agency a try. (And NO, I don't work for them).

suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuure 2 newbies startting at 2,8? Sounds like those ads from recruiters I see promising 3.5 in the header and then listing dozens of jobs paying 2.0 |

Seoul public schools won't place you in the same school (one foreigner each school), but they'll give you housing together. |

Jinju-
Sorry you settled for less than you think you're worth. Everything that I wrote is factual. There are two things, however, that I didn't mention. 1. We both have Master's degrees. 2. We're working half days on Saturday.
Did that subdue your skepticism?
