Just wondering if anyone out there has some stories about hooking up with the Korean teachers that they work with and what happened afterwards?

My advice is simple, while you or the teacher in question is working at the school: don't go there.

The Beaver has a simple philosophy. . . Don't shit where you eat.

Also, more importantly, don't eat where you shit.

I did that last year. Everyone on this forum heard about it.

DON'T DO IT!!!

To make a long story short, the last several months working with her was pure hell. Especially when, about three months after we broke up, she shows up with a couple ring with a big diamond in it. Nothing like teaching in the room next door and hearing her thru the wall... awful, just awful. There are some threads somewhere on here.

Worse... later learned she was promised to be married to that Korean guy for a long time. I was just something fun to play with on the side. I was in love with this woman, and I got burned BADLY.

Take my advice, DO NOT date coworkers. Just DON'T DO IT!

The previous pundits are right, it's a high risk game, but high risk games have their rewards. For me it was third time lucky. I've played the game before and afterwards it wasn't much fun, but the third relationship worked out. We've been going out for 16 months now. I've never been happier. Very Happy.

We were able to see a lot more of each other and got a much better understanding of each other, than a couple who didn't work together. For me, relationships are based on communication, effort and understanding, so we gained by working together. It seems very important to gain a solid foundation at the start. Having a relationship with someone you work with can be a very good thing.

However it can be bad if doesn't work out...but if you have a couldn't careless attitude at these times, it's almost fun! Twisted Evil .

I reckon you have to balance your risks and rewards carefully...but if you're thinking about something more short term...the risk is surely too high.

When I worked in a suburb of Seoul word was a new foreign teacher was coming, had graduated from a famous, old University from the American Eastern seaboard; a prodigy from the promised land of Meegook. And he was only nineteen (I still can't get over that). Gangly, knowing 'nothing' but stuck up for himself. Malleable, but in a laid-back, 'i have lots of energy to burn, anyway, and this is new' kind of way. In no way CRUSTY the clown, more like a peach of a puppy. That is to the Korean female teacher, 25. She had been out of Korea on vacations, including India. Very sensual and saavy, she took him on. Her hagwon vacation she went to Egypt (!). When she came back to work, they got together.

Only do it if you're willing to lose your job - and suffer all the unpleasantness that entails.

Beaver said iit - don't s*** where you eat.

Also, don't f*** on the boardroom table.

All it takes is for things to go sour and her to tell the manager (in detailed Korean, which I'll wager you can't speak) about all the harassment you've subjected her to.

Don't screw the crew.

Don't dip your pen in the company ink.

Don't do a koala in the same gum tree
.

These are all personal maxims that are very applicable and very wise. I wished I listened to them. It is HELL being stuck in a contract working with the co-teacher after it all goes to %#%.

Mind you, it is pretty cool being able to boast to your mates back home about it...... .....

Yeah, well, on the other hand, I met the woman that ended up becoming The Lucky Mrs BTM when she was teaching Japanese at my first hagwon.

So there.

Intra-office nookie can be fun and rewarding!
