Seriously, if you don't know who you like, you're f'ing ridiculous. You are the guy who spends two hours deciding which humidifier to buy. I HATE UNDECIDED VOTERS, yet they are the dipshytes who decide every election.
AAAAHHHHRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
(sorry, this probably belongs in current events, but I can't read that) |

Hell, undecideds are okay as long as they vote. It's the non-voters who need to contract rectal cancer. |

Close your eyes and point doesnt work with the butterfly ballot, though. |

Just because you can't decide doesn't mean you put a lot (or any) thought into it. It could be that you don't care. If someone asks me what the best harry potter movie is, i say, "Huh? I don't know. Put me down for undecided." When it comes to politicians, preferring one pice of crap over another isn't a high priority on everyone's mind. |

Since I came to Korea, I havent voted and heres y:
1. My state is absolutely always Democratic. Its not even close. ie, for all people who understand our voting system, my vote really doesnt count. An example of this would be the 2000 election where Gore actually had a majority of the the votes, however we know how that ended.
2. Absentee votes are not even counted. They are counted only if the election is close in the state.
Its politically correct to vote, yes, but your vote is valuable only in a swing state. |

Undecided voters may have no viable option for someone who represents them. Many people who don't vote are lazy and ignorant, but I would rather those people NOT play a part in politics. Many university students, an educated group, can't tell you WHY they are voting for someone. That's dangerous and leads to bad leaders. Other people who don't vote are making a personal choice and often a political statement because there are often no valuable candidates.
Voting doesn't do much, like write of weigh touched on. If you want to be political, you have to do more. Voting is too little and too seldom, but it gives idiots the feeling that they are being patriotic and lets them feel like they don't have to do anything else. |

This isnt just a problem for uni students... its a fundamental problem of democracy. Can the people really be trusted to self-govern? Do they really know what is best for them, or do they need to be led? Remember, Plato said democracy is really a 'tyranny'... and later Jefferson used, "Tyranny of the majority".
We have this system in the USA that an 'indirect democratic republic' to mitigate for the excessive burdens on voters of having so many issues to vote for and the impossibility of having sufficient knowledge about most of those issues. But the upshot of it all is that the representatives we vote for dont always take our interests to heart... choosing instead to vote in a way such as to ensure re-election.
The principals behind democracy are good ones -- namely that people have inherent rights as humans to self-determine and that we all have free will and an ability to make a rational choice... But the exact mechanisms we have in the USA are f!cked up and its no wonder we have such a problem with voter apathy. |

If you don't like any of the candidates (and/or parties), not voting for them is entirely consistent with principles of democracy. For instance, I wouldn't have voted for Bush or Kerry in 2004. I might have considered a vote for Kerry to keep the other out, but I probably would have found that a poor reason for a vote.
I therefore find compulsory voting (Australia) utter nonsense. |
