If you're somewhere reading this right now, and are thinking of heading in the direction of Seoul, perhaps on Gyeongbusun (National Motorway Number 1) ...
... don't. |

I went for a walk today by my place. I live next to one of the main Seoul arteries.
I walked up on the overpass and could see literally thousands of cars in both directions (to Seoul and away from), for as far as I could see. Its the worst traffic I've seen in my life.
Times like this and I'm glad I don't own a car |

Here's a fun link if you're a masochist:

Latest time estimate from Busan - Seoul: 10 hrs 38 mins. Bloody hell.
Seriously, it makes me wonder why Koreans even bother sometimes. Plus, as today is the actual Chuseok day, I thought traffic was meant to be on the quiet side. |

i was in a cab on the expressway today. my cab ride was about 20 minutes longer than normal.
my song to the other drivers went
"happy holidays, you're not enjoying yourselves.
happy holidays, you're not enjoying yourselves.
happy holidays, you're not enjoying yourselves.
happy holidays, you're not enjoying yourselves.
happy holidays, you're not enjoying yourselves."
i kinda just kept repeating it. i couldn't come up with any lyrics that were more poignant thant those. |

A friend of mine headed here for supper called from his car between Ichon and Yeoju. He got home 3 1/2 hours later. |

A usual 2-2.5 hour drive took me 4 hours, but then I avoided all the major arteries. Ya-Ta, your friend should have taken the 42. |

Oh, but respectable Koreans with money would NEVER take public transportation when they own a car. If they did take public transportation, they certainly wouldn't plan ahead to reserve it!
To follow up my first post, that time ended up being 5am, not 3am. |

Unless it was the KTX, first class, with two kids in tow who don't get their own seat, but rather squeeze onto Mom and Dad's lap, run up and down the aisles, and basically annoy the hell out of whomever is unfortunate enough to sit near them.
My rant for the day. I'm looking forward to the Chritsmas holiday. I need a break from Korea and Koreans. |

I live in a country town - the kid of place everyone comes to for Chuseak. By noon today everone was gone.
I did see something unique yestrday. Parked at a very marginal mountain farm was a magnificent 700 series BMW.
Looks like one son made good. |
