I have a question. I hope somebody can help me out. I have an E2 visa which expires in a week. I am in Australia now. About 5 months into my contract (feb this year) I had to return to Australia for family reasons. I advised my hagwon at the time and they were like, no worries, take all the time you need. I didnt fill out any kind of release letter or anything, since I intend to return teaching for them. While in Australia I lost my passport and am getting a replacement, which I expect any day. I want to return to Korea in October and start a new contract with my school. What do I need to do to organise this? Can I enter on a tourist visa, then get my school to arrange things with immigration? Any advice is much appreciated. Cheers

Shocked First - contact the hagwon. They are responsible for the new contract and new visa (once the old one expires).

Seven months away is excessive; despite them telling you to take all the time you need! Embarassed Don't be surprised if they disown you.

Do not enter Korean on a tourist visa if YOU have paid for your own flights. Nake sure your school pays for your flight in ADVANCE.

Your school may well disown you when you arrive (payback for long absense & having to find another teacher). You will then be stranded - and out of pocket for your flights to Korea and back home.

check out your school - if they aren't interested, hey, your visa is about expired anyway so just find another job. no sweat, ok?

If you are entering:
before the end of the E2
AND have a re-entry permit in your passport
AND did NOT hand in your ARC when you left
there will be no problem and they won't blink.

If you handed in your ARC you will be entered on a tourist stamp.
If you did NOT have a re-entry permit you will be entered on a tourist stamp.
IF your re-entry permit has expired you will be entered on a tourist stamp.
If your E2 has expired you will be entered on a tourist stamp.

No worries unless you are on a tourist stamp AND do not have onward passage booked. In this case, they may ask to see it.

expired re-entry permit. And my E2 has expired.
Im happy to walk in with a tourist visa.
I just heard somewhere a long time ago about people leaving before their contract having problems coming back in. Guess it doesnt affect since me since my school has given me the time off.
Cheers
