However, the praise and public attention that writers sometimes receive do not seem to be as fatal to them as one might expect.

Why didn't the writer write "the praise and the public attention"? Don't you need "the" twice?
Or
Does "the praise and public attention" mean "the praise attention and the public attention"?

| Yes, it means the same. "the praise and public attention" has the second "the" deleted. There is no need to repeat it twice, as it is understood. |
