(1)Protagoras was so skeptical that he refused to believe that
we could ever really know anything.

(2)Any individual triangle found in the everyday world is never quite
perfect: they may be a little crooked, or the lines a little thick, or the
angles not quite right.
They are only ever an approximation of the ideal.

Could explain the meaning of 'ever' of (1) and (2)?

Thanks a lot for your help.

(1) Protagoras (or Pythagoras) was so skeptical that he refused to believe that we could really know anything no matter how long we tried.

(2) They are only at any time an approximation of the ideal.
