That�s the fairy godmother�s cottage. She�s the largest producer of hexes and potions in the whole kingdom. Then why don�t we pop in there for a spell? Ha-ha! Spell!

It's a pun, a play on words.

When you do something for a short period of time, you can say you did it for a spell. "We sat and drank lemonade for a spell, then we went shopping."

But also, witches and fairy godmothers cast spells, which magically cause things to happen: Your crush falls in love with you (good fairy godmother), or the prince turns into a frog (bad witch), etc.
