I saw these sentences in the newspaper.
I was wondering if both were correct.
Are both 'using a gerund after to' and 'using a verb's original form after to'
acceptable? |
Yes, both are correct. The tense of "developing" implies an on-going process. Grammatically, "commitment" is a direct object, "to" is a preposition in an adjective prepositional phrase, "developing" is a gerund object of the preposition.
The tense of "solve" implies a future action that has not yet started. Grammatically, it is a bare infinitive object of the preposition. _________________ "It is impossible to speak in such a way that you cannot be misunderstood." -- Karl Popper |
