Hello,

Many accidents occur/happen/take place in the home.

Does 'take place' work in the sentence? According to the dictionary, events usually "take place" by arrangment.

What is the difference among the three expressions if they are interchangeable?

On the other hand, if events take place by arrangment, can we use 'occur' and 'happen'? For example,

The wedding will occur/happen next weekend.

Thank you very much.

No, it doesn't really work here. Follow your dictionary's guidelines.

Occur is okay. A basic guideline is:
Occur = by planning or chance
happen = by chance
take place = by planning

These are not absolute rules, so colloquially they will often be interchanged, but the guidelines are generally understood. So if you say "The wedding will happen next weekend," then the listener can assume that the exact time is not set, only that the couple will wed when they have a chance during the weekend.

In these cases, there is no real difference.
