Dear rice 07,

Thank you for your answer to my question "This is some hamburgers."

Your answer is perfect!

I understand what you said.

But I made a mistake in the former topic.

I should have said "He used 'This is + plural noun" expressions."

How about this one?

Is 'This is + plural noun' expression common in your daily conversation?

Why is this kind of expression possible?

I'm looking forward to your kind answer.

Thanks. Smile

Hi,

To me, I think the expression- This is + plural noun- seems odd , but that doesn't present it is incorrect due to my knowledge of English deficient. So, better leave that for the native speakers of English. Hope anyone knowing the answer of this question could set us straight. Thanks heaps!

Sincerely
rice07

If you give an example in this thread, it might be helpful.

I tried to explain this in your other question, but I'll do it here, too. Smile
Using the plural verb "are" with plural subjects is what accepted as "proper" in Standard American English. Using the singular verb "is" with plural subjects is common in many non-Standard American English dialects. It seems the character in your book is a speaker of a non-Standard American English dialect.
