What are the differences among "In addition", "besides", "Moreover", "Furthermore" and "Apart from". Would you kindly give explanation. Thanks a lot.

The first four are all used to introduce another point in support of an argument you are making. "Besides" is used in everyday speech; the others are all rather formal and might be used in essays etc.
"Apart from" is used differently. It introduces a word, phrase or subordinate clause pointing out an exception to the main clause.
e.g. Apart from Tom, everyone is going.
There was no news apart from what we had heard earlier. |
