"The Sad Fortunes of the Reverend Amos Barton" appeared in Blackwood's Maganize in january 1857. It was followed by two other stories in the same year, and all three were collected in book form ____ Scenes from Clerical Life(1858).
The answer given is AS.

What does the sentence mean? What does as mean here?

Thanks

The sentence means that the story "The Sad Fortunes of the Reverend Amos Barton" was published in Blackwood's Magazine in January 1857. Two other stories were published after "The Sad Fortunes of Reverend Amos Barton" in 1857, presumably in Blackwood's Magazine. All three stories from the magazine were published as one book called "Scenes from Clerical Life."

"As" is being used as an adverb modifying "collected" to set you up for learning the name of collection ( or book, in this example).
