Dear all teachers!!

This picture is of a mature, but still modern woman.
----->

I think that the woman in the picture is mature(=mature adult, aged woman) but that she is a modern woman. Here, what do you mean by "a modern woman"? Does a modern woman mean "young lady who is not old"?

Thank you so much.

Hi!

A "mature woman" is someone who is no longer young. She is done having children and/or has some good job experience. Physically, she may have some wrinkles, or may not be as slim and fit as a young woman. (Others may contribute to this description!)

The exact age that a woman becomes mature is not certain, but I would guess that "mature" begins about 40 years old, certainly by 50 years old.

Society tends to view mature women as old-fashioned in how they dress, how they wear their hair, and how they deal with situations. To be considered "modern," a woman would have current or trendy clothing, hairstyle, and makeup. She would know the latest technology, and she would be current in news and entertainment.

Examples:
"She may be mature in age, but she is sure modern when it comes to technology! She owns an iPod, an iPhone, and two laptops!"
"Lots of people would think my grandmother is old. But I can tell you, not all mature women aren't modern--my grandmother travels around the world all by herself."

I hope this helps! If not, please ask again!
