Deat teachers:
I have a question about grammar of English.
Does the English teacher teach the English grammar during the class?
Beacause the students in Taiwan were taught that the grammar is very important. So, I'd like to know that: for Ameracan's students, whether the grammar is as important as Taiwan's student?
Thank you very much :p
Best wishes,
Caty Lee. |

Hello!
Yes, grammar is part of a regular school day, especially in the lower grades. Since children already know how to speak English, there aren't extra grammar classes, but grammar is included in the daily reading and writing lessons. It's not usually a separate topic, because children automatically learn how to speak their native language, without knowing the rules. This is probably how you learned, too.
As students get older, specific grammar topics may be part of reading, composition, or literature classes. There are reference books for grammar, especially writing, that students use in upper levels and in university. By the time they graduate from high school, students are expected to speak and write correctly.
Does that answer your questions? |

Thanks for your response.
I think that is the answer what I want.
It is really different betwwen an English native country and a Chinese native country. I think I should do more and more reading and writing to make my grammar ability better.
Thank you very much.
Best wishes,

When I was in high school (in Australia in the early-mid 90s) we were taught absolutely NO GRAMMAR. It had been removed from the curriculum in Australian schools. However I've heard that recently it has been brought back. Too late for me.... _________________ Try some mini, on-line adventure games to help your English at: www.gameenglish.com |
