the past participle "done" and the perfect and passive form of a present participle "having been done" can both be used to refer to a passive action that happened before another action, are there any differences between them?
Separated from other continents for millions of years, Australia has many plants and animals not found in any other country in the world.
Can "separated" be replaced by "having been separated" here?
Having been told many times, he still repeated the same mistake.
Likewise,Can "Having been told" be repplaced by the only word "told" here? |

The difference is that Australia was separated in the past, continues to be so in the present and it still has (in the present) all the weird animals and plants.
Having been told many times (but not now)= an action completed in the past. He still repeated the same mistake = an action completed in the past. |
