When we translate Two sentences, What is difference?

- Jane couldn't come to the party which was a shame.
- Jane couldn't come to the party, which was a shame.

Could you explain? Rolling Eyes
Thank you!!

Party is the antecedent of the relative pronoun which in the 1st sentence. The 1st sentence means the party was a shame, not the fact that Jane couldnt come. The 2nd sentence says the fact that Jane couldnt come was a shame, not the party. Here which refers to the whole clause Jane couldn't come to the party.
