Hi,

I have been curious about the usage of 'you know what' put in the sentence. I'd like to know when it is said or used, what follows would be prone to derogatory or positive? Or, 'you know what' is only neutral? Sentences to illustrate 'you know what' would be appreciated. Thank you for your help.

You know what is a handy all purpose phrase used in colloquial speech.

You know what? I love you.
You know what? Who cares?
You know what? I feel like chicken tonight.
My Dad says I can't borrow the car. You know what? He's a jerk!

And so on.

Thank you, pugachev, to answer me this question. So this phrase is just a neutral phrase which does not indicate anything negative or positive? Thank you.
