It was a great idea to leave him unknown. But I think he will find out soon.
This sentence should express: It was a great idea to leave him without telling him first.
Is `unknown�possible in this context? Please comment again. |

No unknown is not the word to use here.
You leave him in ignorance, or colloquially, "In the dark."
We kept Bill completely in the dark about the upcoming trip. |
