I have heard in the The Big Bang Theory serial:
He: Are you asking me out?
She: Yes, I am.
S: Wow.
H: I was just going off your comment about your last guy you dated.
What exactly �going off� means in this context?

I think it probably means, I was just following on from your comment about the last guy you dated.
"Go off" is used to describe things that produce an explosion when they are used. Bombs, gun, and fireworks "go off". |
