The following is my question:
When the party was over, they exchanged phone numbers and parted ways.
What does "parted ways" mean here? Would someone paraphrase it please? Thanks a lot. |

"Parted ways" can be paraphrased by saying "they went down their own separate paths". Because they exchanged phone numbers, the reader is left to guess as to whether they would call each other, but typically "parted ways" indicates a finality of the relationship.
