Hi.
Would you help me understand the following passage?
If that first man were trying to fill a straight or a flush, maybe he wouldn't make it. And maybe something final would happen to all the other players. But that
was the only way he could see for Her Majesty to win.
Can "something final" mean "something bad" or "something disastrous" (like ending up with no pairs and greater)? I checked the world "final" in several dictionaries and could not find an appropriate meaning. I appreciate any comments. Thank you. |

I would take a clue from "that first man were trying to fill a straight or a flush." Basically, it appears that the odds of the first man doing that appear to be slim. Consequently, the observer is hoping ("maybe") the others would encounter a similar "final" fate and thus let Her Majesty win.
There is nothing bad or disastrous implied by the word "final". _________________ Educe22 |
