Dear teachers:

There is one question I would like to ask. The complete sentence is as follow. "The data entry clerk is so accustomed to working by herself that I ready doubt if she is capable of _______ on this project." And the correct answer that the test book gives is "collaborator". However, I have no idea about why the answer is that.
I would like to know the meaning of the sentence, "be capable of collaborator on this project". Thanks for your help.

Best wishes,
Ben Lin

Do you understand the sentence now?

Thanks for your answer. I find out I make a mistake in looking the wrong number of answer. The correct answer is collaborating.
Now I know the meaning of sentence is that having an ability to collaborate with other people. But why the type of "collaborate" is present participle(V-ing) instead of past participle(V-ed). Thanks a lot.

Because 'capable of collobortated' is incorrect grammar and makes no sense. You have to use the 'ing' form

another example

'capable of doing' is correct.
'capable of done' is wrong.

[/list]

I am editing this to correct a careless mistake.
Of course, the past participle of "do" is ''done''. ''did" is the simple past.
Anyway, one can only say ''capable of doing''.
