What does "scrub" below mean?
The aggressive effort across the intelligence community to translate and analyze the documents seized from the hide-out has as its top priority discovering any clues about terrorist attacks that might be in the works. Intelligence analysts also were scrubbing the files for any information that might lead to identifying the location of Al Qaedas surviving leadership. _________________ Hiromichi |

I would say the writer has used his thesaurus to find an alternative word for scour ( to subject to a thorough search) and has come up with an alternative to scour in its other sense of "clean or brighten by vigorous scrubbing".
In my opinion scrub is used incorrectly in your quoted piece. |

| Yeah, scrubbing in an intelligence sense usually means removing information, like scrubbing data from a hard drive or redacting details from documents. If it does mean 'looking through information' I've never seen it used that way. |
