Hi,
When I read the lyrics of Femme Fatale by The Velvet Underground, there's a line that puzzles me.
It goes like this:
'Cause everybody knows (She's a femme fatale)
The things she does to please (She's a femme fatale)
She's just a little tease (She's a femme fatale)
See the way she walks
Hear the way she talks
I'd like to know who's the object of 'to please'?
The things she does to please--does it mean what she does is to please the man or herself?
Thanks in advance. |

| The object is unspoken - it means to please others. You'll hear similar phrases, like "I aim to please" which means "I try my best to make people happy/provide a good service etc." |
