The following is my question:

Nevertheless, when it ends, most choose to remain in their church and follow the rules of their society.

What does "church" mean in this sentence? Does it mean "belief in Christianity" or "the building itself"?

Thanks for your help.

Here is the context:

The Amish people are known for their traditional way of life. Many members of these farming communities turn their back on
many modern conveniences including electricity and cars. In
addition, they dress conservatively, refuse alcohol and drugs, and are devoted to their religion. However, there is a time when these rules may be broken. Rumspringa, which may be translated as running around, is an accepted rite of passage for many Amish youth. During this time, they have much more social freedom. Nevertheless, when it
ends, most choose to remain in their church and follow the rules of their society.

Thanks.

It means their religious group - it could be the specific group of people who worship in a particular building, or a larger denomination (e.g. Catholicism) or the entire religion itself (e.g. Christianity). In this sense it's not talking about being inside the actual building itself.
