In the program Fawlty Towers, Basil Fawlty is very sarcastic. He often mocks his wife using sarcasm, saying things like" Why don't you have another vat of win, dear?" when she has a bad day.
Does he mean that she could have drunk more wine to forget her sadness?
Thanks you |

A vat is a large tank or tub.
Why don't you have another vat of wine implies she has already had at least one vat already and so is probably an alcoholic, or at least under the influence of alcohol.
Not everyone considers this kind of sarcasm to be funny, incidentally. |
