Hi,

What does ' pull your reputation from the flames' mean in the following passage from Dog's Life?

In my estimation it's tough to stake your claim
In a world full of torments and lies
You can't pull your reputation from the flames
And you can't squeeze love from a dog's life

Does 'flames' here mean ' a strong powerful feeling' or 'angry offensive email'?

And, 'pull your reputation from something' , does 'pull' mean to 'remove from' or 'draw something toward you'?

What does the sentence mean anyway?

Thank you very much for your help!

If you pull something out of the fire, you save it.
If you can't pull your reputation from the flames - you can't save it.
