Hello teachers,
Nice to meet you,
I have a problem about movie dialogue .
In a formal occasion, the actress wear a poncho that I think it is not suitable for that situation. But there was a guy walking by and saying"Killer poncho!" "Thanks you!"she replied.
I don't know what meaning about that conversation. Is that a kind of admiration? killer+noun? How to use it?
Could you explain that?
hope you have nice days,
sincerely,
William |

Hi William,
In colloquial or slang American English, you can use the adjective 'killer' to describe an object as great, cool, fantastic, etc. So in the film the man may have been saying how nice her poncho was: 'Killer poncho!'
For example, If I like your phone I could say, 'Killer phone!'
Of course you have to listen carefully to the intonation of the speaker. With a different tone he might be saying the opposite, that he didn't like her poncho.
Always try to look for clues in the speaker's body language and intonation. This can really help you to understand their speech better.
