Hello,
I'd like to know if the following always has to be in the same order: past continuous + when + simple past or can you have simple past + when + past continuous.
For example:
1- The girl was reading when they entered.
2- They entered when the girl was reading.
Are they both correct? If so, do thay mean the same thing?
Thank you. |

Number 1 is correct in all circumstances. Number 2 is commonly used, but might be marked wrong on some tests which require "They entered while the girl was reading" instead.
These are all okay:
The girl was reading when they entered.
When they entered, the girl was reading.
They entered while the girl was reading.
While the girl was reading, they entered. |
