| Here is a good place to ask what the inner knower actually knows. As we commonly define it, knowledge is experience that has been recorded in memory. No one would know that water boils at 100 degrees Centigrade unless there was memory of this. So the wise must have much more experience than the rest of us, or else they were born with more brain capacity. But is that really the case? After a divorce a person may lament that as early as the honeymoon it was obvious that the marriage wouldnt work out. Yet somehow only hindsight shows the importance of that intuition. How much is reliable to begin with? |
1. I think 'How much is reliable to begin with?' is wrong because there is no subject in it. So instead, 'How much is it reliable to begin with?' might be right. Is my opinion right? Please tell me.
2. Is 'to begin with' the same as 'first'?
Thanks. |

Hello Chan, when they say how much is reliable they are referring to how much knowledge is reliable that would be from the inference of the article. If not for the inference of the article the sentence would be wrong. So basically you are right to doubt the sentence, but, as I said it is OK with the inference. As for to begin with that means to start or from the beginning. You use it to start an argument or debate. I hope this helps. _________________ YOU CAN learn English
